In August 2018 we commenced development with the extension at our Kata beach location creating a unique dive resort & Instructor training center with a purpose built private dive pool, this is due to open in late October 2018. The resort will offer affordable accommodation, onsite restaurant, massage with the advantage of being 100m from the main Beach at Kata and local night life.
There is a strong demand in the recreational scuba industry in Thailand for passionate individuals who can share their love of the sport and the underwater world with others.
SSI Open Water Instructors are the backbone of the dive industry in Thailand with more scuba certifications than any other brand of diving, Go Pro and start teaching new divers to safely explore the underwater world, providing introductory courses to those who are considering a scuba certification, and teaching continuing education programs that create life-long and enthusiastic divers.
This program trains you to be a well-prepared, versatile and marketable dive professional, with the ability to provide high quality training to entry-level and experienced divers alike. It is intended to be
a fun and challenging learning experience that will present you with new skills and knowledge that will increase your abilities as a dive professional. You are expected to ask questions and to take an active role in the training process. Your basic dive skills and knowledge will be refined and tested as you develop into a capable and professional educator.
Schedule & Objectives
A. Assistant instructor development Course (AIDC)
The SSI Assistant Instructor Training Course provides candidates with the knowledge and training necessary to perform the duties of an assistant instructor. These duties include conducting entry-level scuba training under the indirect supervision of an Open Water Instructor, and independently conducting Scuba Skills Updates, Try Scuba, and Perfect Buoyancy programs.
B. Instructor training course
The SSI Instructor Training Course provides candidates with the knowledge and training necessary to organize and conduct entry-level scuba training courses. It is also intended to prepare candidates to successfully complete an Instructor Evaluation.
Prerequisites to enrolment
A. Assistant Open water Instructor.
Minimum age: 18 years old.
Must hold the SSI Divemaster rating or an equivalent rating from a recognized agency.
Must have logged at least 60 open water dives totalling 40 hours or more.
B. Open water Instructor
Minimum age: 18 years old.
Be certified in Enriched Air Nitrox 40 or equivalent.
Must hold the SSI Assistant Instructor rating, or an equivalent rating from a recognized agency.
Must have logged at least 75 open water dives totalling 50 hours or more.
The instructor development course (idc)
A. Assistant Instructor Prerequisites to certification
Have logged at least 75 open water dives, totalling 50 hours or more.
Read and complete Sections 1-6, including reviews and assessments, of the Instructor Training
Course digital learning.
Complete and pass all requirements and evaluations for Practical Application Sessions 1-7, as
outlined in the instructor manual for the Instructor Training Course.
Complete the Candidate Water Fitness Evaluation as outlined in the SSI Training Standards if it has
been more than six months since the candidate has been evaluated.
Complete an Assistant Instructor final exam with a passing score of 90%.
B. Open water Instructor Prerequisites to certification
Have logged at least 100 open water dives totalling 65 hours or more. Read and complete all sections, including reviews and assessments, of the Instructor Training Course
digital learning. Complete and pass all requirements and evaluations as outlined in the instructor manual for the instructor Training Course.
Complete the Candidate Water Fitness Evaluation as outlined in the SSI Training Standards if it has been more than six months since the candidate has been evaluated.

SCHEDULING THE PROGRAM
The following schedule is a guideline for conducting the Instructor Training Course over twelve full days with four candidates. It can be adapted into a multiple-weekend format or several evening sessions.
